kz1000 shift fork shaft??? was created by Frankn9
hello, I am wondering if anyone can tell me if I can get access to the small shift fork shaft on a 78 kz1000 if I go in through the clutch side? the clip on the end of the shaft came off, the shaft slipped in towards the clutch and I can't get it to slide back out so I can put on a new clip. my books say to "tap the shaft out from the clutch side" but thats after splitting the cases. I have the oil pan off but still can't get it. I just want to know if I can get to it before I try to remove the clutch hub and such. So, does anyone know? can it be done? any help would be appriciated, Thanks

Normally you go after these from the trans cover side, didn't say if you had it off or not. I'd want to check under there any way. Never heard of that happening.

trans cover has been removed. the shaft just doesn't want to slide back out, like its catching on the groove for the clip. the bike jumps out of 3rd gear so I took it apart to check things out. everything looks good except the shift fork shaft not in place. the shaft will slide into the case and protrude from the trans cover side just no far enough to get the clip on. Thanks for getting back to me.

Jumping out of gear can bend forks and shafts. Make sure forks move freely.
