hi i am restoring a kz1000 ltd (1980) with a gearbox problem (damaged dogs on third gear pinion - god knows how this happened), i have sourced a reasonable replacement gearbox from a z1b900- are they the same , does anyone know, cheers mat

Matty, Compare the length of the rods that the shift forks ride on. Something in the back of my memory tells me that they will be different. If your 900 rods are shorter, use the longer 1000 rods so they fit properly. The 900 rods may be shorter and have more play and thus be more prone to breaking.

i havnt got a chance to compare the gearboxes and im not sure that the forks, barrel and rods are available- i was just hoping i could use the 2 z1 900 shafts with my existing (z1000 classic)selector bits and bobs- should this work ???

The swap SHOULD work but do compare the length of the shafts the forks ride on... seems to me that is where there MIGHT be a difference. I am not sure...
