I'm sick of polishing aluminum. I think Ive spent half my life polishing this crap. Thats enough. You can't ever keep it nice. Does anyone know how to turn it back to stock look without waiting five years without polishing. Thanks Go Packers

I've used a buffing wheel with scotchbrite sandwiched between two cloth pads. When I'm done with that I use fine steelwool, rubbed in one direction. It usually gives me an OEM look.

I spent about an hour or so on the swingarm in the picture

I know Easy Off oven cleaner works great for restoring rough or sand cast cases. Makes them look new. maybe it will have the same effect on polished aluminum?

RunDog,
If you aren't successful in changing it back to normal, I'll offer the method that works for me on maintaining polished aluminum parts. I maintanence my polished aluminum eng covers once a year by waxing them with paste wax. If the shine isn't to my liking, I give it a light buff with Simichrome or something similar and then wax it. The wax seems to keep the polished aluminum from starting to oxidize. Obviously if you use a cleaner that removes wax such as S100, you will have to rewax. I only use mild carwash soap that doesn't strip wax to wash the bikes. But this is a once a year method I don't mind for maintaining polished aluminum. Your results may vary. Good luck with getting it the way you want it.

Why not paint it with the clear coat from POR-15 designed to protect polished aluminum?
