Filled the Z650 with some 5w30 (coming into winter here) full synthetic oil today and a new filter.
Instantly idles a bit better, no clutch drag when cold. Faster cold crank as well.
Will let you all know how teh synthetic holds up and whether I think it's worth it or not, if anyone is interested.

Regards, Andrew.

I'm now into my second season now using Castrol Syntec 100% synthetic oil. No problems.

I have always used synth in most of my cars, especially my work trucks as they always have high miles.

It does seem to leak a little better if you have old seals and they leaked before. I did not experience new leaks from switching ever, as reported by some.

I like the redline oils but they are a little pricey.

Is 5W-30 synthetic also energy conserving like conventional 5W-30? I thought energy conserving was a no-no in wet clutch engines.

The stuff I got is not energy conserving (checked that!). It's just a synthetic lighter oil. Ran really nicely today, no clutch slip, nice positive gear changes when cold, just, well, better! Obviously I plan to run a thicker oil in summer.
My calendar is good, it's getting colder here on the east coast of Australia!
