Gpz 550 Exhaust
25 Oct 2005 13:30
I have a 1983 GPZ 550 with a 1981 Gpz 550 engine in it. Do I buy the MAC exhaust from bikebandit.com for the engine year or the frame? I'm assuming engine, but I don't want to get it and have to change the wrapping on the pipes.
Thanks,
Nate
Thanks,
Nate

So you have your header pipes wrapped and you are just buying a muffler?

no, the whole exhaust I meant that if I bought the wrong exhaust then I would have to some how rewrap the headers.

I don't know much about the 550's but since the 1981 and 1983 engines are similar, the actual header pipes should be the same. However, the point at which the muffler attaches to the frame might be different for those years. The '81 was a twin shock while the '83 was a monoshock. So, just intuiting it, I'd buy the 1983 MAC system (if there is a difference between the '81 and '83 MAC systems). You need to have a forum member with more experience step in here.
