Dudes, I am doing a top end on my KZ1000G and need new pistons. Bike has 38k and had very poor compression on 3 & 4. When I removed the head I found .50mm pistons in it. It had been bored before. What is the next larger size piston? Redline Cyle or Z1 Enterprises, any thoughts. The head looks good but had 3 stripped cam caps, will fix with helicoils. The cams look good, can I install new cam bushings with the used cams? Thanks in advance for any thought regarding these issues.

if the cam bearings don't look to bad you can reuse them and look at either a 1045 or a 1075 kit from wiseco. gives you a bit more compression and both kits work well i have a couple of engines with each in them.

why do you think you need new piston kit due to low compression? it may just be a head issue.
reason i ask is i had low compression, rebuilt the head and am going to use my original pistons. i ask myself, should i buy a new piston kit?

Check the head out first.

If you still want to change pistons, the next oversize is 1mm (1045cc) then 2mm (1075cc)

thanks for the reply, need new pistons because cylinder/piston clearance is past acceptable limits. I am also doing a valve job. How about the cam chain? Thanks again

if you have the motor apart its a great time to change the cam chain out also inspect all cam chain sliders and idlers to make sure they are in good condition.

and if you have to buy idlers don't buy stock kawi pieces buy liska aftermarket pieces. they are definitly the best and roughly the same price or cheaper than stock stuff
