I just finished having my 78kz100 refetted with a stage 3 kit, has 4 into 1 exhaust and individual air pods and wanted to know what Hot or cold plugs were best to run on it?? I would appreciate any input

1978KZ1000, stock w exception of aftermarket 4 into 1 and air pods

The plugs will stay the same as original. There have been many discussions on plug brand preference. I personally would not run anything besides Denso W24ES-U or Accel 124 with a gap of .040"-.060" with aftermarket coils. Since you have a KZ1000 you have a Dyna ignition I presume and are running Dyna green coils or Accel 140403 3 Ohm coils.

Imo, could confidently begin with spark plugs to FSM specs: NGK B8ES gapped .021~.032" (.7~.8 mm), which should prove satisfactory, at least until further performance evaluations on the particular bike at hand.

This sorta implies that NGK spark plugs would not be a good choice. Correct?
If so, what's the knock against NGKs?

PS: this is the second time within the past month that the use of NGKs has been called into question. The other poster from another forum is an experienced Kaw guy.

Have 4 bikes,1 Kaw,1 Yammy,2 Triumph-running NGK in all of them.No problems,no complaints.Pick a good plug with the heat range specified for your bike,then dont worry,be happy.Kaw and Yammy are modified.lol.bj

I believe the general opinion is that the quality of NGK sparkplugs has slipped over time. Some are made in the U.S., others still made in Japan.

While I was racing back in the late 70s NGK plugs never performed the way ND (Denso) plugs performed.

The ACCEL 142 plugs are a updated version of those and the best substitute I have found for the ND plugs.
