Can I run 72.5mm pistons in my 75.5mm OD cast iron sleeves?
This leaves me with 1.5mm wall thickness. This is thicker than the piston skirt. This is not a hot engine. Just trying to make use of some good kz1100 pistons and rings.

We draw the line at .075". ( 1.92 mm), and then only with street compression.

Jay-

Thanks.

What I need to know now is the OD of the stock 998CC 'J' motor sleeve. I'd like it to be enough to let me put these 72.5mm pistons in it. The 1.5mm came from measuring the lower portion of the sleeve OD. It looks a tad larger right at the base surface, but I can't get in there to measure with what i have here at the house. It's a street engine. Stock compression.

Wiseco makes a 73mm piston for the 1000J. I know for a fact that that makes it too thin and we have told them that more than once. We will not put one in a customers block.

I know we have a bunch of 1000J sleeves aorund our place, but not sure where to put my hands on them at the moment to measure.

But I would base the fact that a 72 in a J works well and the 73 is out there, you could probably do the 72.5

I would suggest 2mm minimum, having once owned an "oil burner" Z1000J even my 810 now has bigger sleeves in it.

why don't you take a good 1100ccm block ?
72,5mm pistons are std. for 1100ccm.

Lorcan-
Thanks. Still don't know how thick the stock sleeve is.Will see if anyone has info and if not by tomorrow, see if I can get the shop oven working. If it's gonna play, I'd like to drop the block off at the machine shop Monday.
