missing 3rd and sometimes 4th gear

missing 3rd and sometimes 4th gear was created by merslinger
when shifting to third especially my 1993 kz1000 misses third and will act like it is in neutral from there if i toe down it will go into third so it gets stuck between 3 and 4.the same happens between 4 and 5. i tried harder shifts softer shifts higher rpm lower rpm thanks for any advice.

Before you start tearing into the motor or troubleshooting this problem I'd suggest taking the clutch perch/lever, clutch cable, and clutch actuator apart and clean and lubricate them. It might just be the clutch hanging up. Unlikely maybe but imagine how much you'd be kicking yourself if you tore the motor down just to figure out its the clutch actuator.

Besides, it'll take an hour and cost only a can of cable lube. Even if thats not what it is once its all lubed it'll be nice and smooth and you won't have to worry about it.

Possibly a weak detent spring behind the trans cover. Sounds like the shift drum is rotating too far.. to easily. Not expensive to replace nor difficult. Would need new spring and trans cover gasket. Oil will need to be drained as well.
