Cam Timing marks was created by jbrewer73
I am completing my first rebuild btu have a question about the cam marks. When i removed the valve cover I took photos of the cam positioning at "T" 1/4 to reference when i reassmble. When referencing the manual my cam marks do not look like what the book is showing me. I know the timing was fine cuz the bike ran and started fine. So I was thinking to reassemble the way they came out.

Can someone tell me if this is normal to cam marks positioned differently than the manuals instruction?

Thanks in advance.

Hard to tell for sure from the picture but it looks like you might be on the wrong stroke. Rotate the engine 360 degrees and check again.

I see what you guys are saying. Just to clarify the pics I have posted are before I disassembled and is where they were at when set at "T" 1/4??? So I was thinking of positioning them the same way being the bike ran fine before tear down.

You'll hit the T mark on 1/4 and be 180 out if you're on the exhaust stroke. Put it back together the way the manual says to the first time or you'll be taking it apart to do it like the manual says the second time.

I am going to follow the book but what i am trying to figure out is why my cams were positioned the way they are in the pic i posted. Before disassembly I used a 17mm wrench, rotated to "T" 1/4, removed the valve cover and took pics of the cam positioning and they looked how you see them in the pics. How did this bike even run is what i am trying to figure out.

they only look like the book every other time around....just follow the manual and you will be fine...
if you had done another 360 degree spin on the before pic, it would have looked just like the book....you re good...
