MSD Boost timing master...TURBO was created by M357.5
Hey guy's, I have an MSD boost timing master control here. It was bought for a previous project ( Rock Crawler, 4cyl 22R toyota turbo which was running propane )

This is NOT a for sale thread, just looking for info if this may be of use in a MOTORCYCLE application.

Anyway, I sold the rock buggy and have this control unit sitting here not being used. Maybe if you were using an MSD motorcycle ignition as well, this would be benificial ?
I'm gathering parts for my build over the winter, was planning an 810 build with some goodies, but a Turbo setup on low boost may be a cost effective alternative....undecided at this point.

Allows for 1-3* timing retard per Lb of boost. Adjustable.

Link to MSD site.

And a pic of the unit. List price is $285.70

I would think ignition retardation under higher boost levels would be beneficial in any application. I think if you're planning a low-boost application it may not do much for you. You would definitely need an electronic ignition that the module can interact with.

If you do the project...definitely start a thread!

It was to be used with an MSD 6AL ignition I had for my previous project, I'm sure it could be used in conjunction with MSD's Motorcycle ignition.

750 Turbo's came with many upgrades over the NA 750. Wonder how much boost a NA bottom end would take before you had reliabilty issues. Obviously would need to dive into the engine to lower the CR, upgrade head gasket, amongst other things....maybe not so cost effective compared to a NA 810, as your into all the same cwork plus the $$$ spent on the Huffer/plumbing/42mm HSR etc.

Just thinkin out loud again....sorry :silly:

I think the stock CR on the 650/750 is fine for boost. It has been stated that the 750 turbo rods work on these engines and can handle a good amount of power compared to the stock rods. But like your first post said, low boost wouldn't take much to run reliably (depending on your definition of low boost). Doubt you'd need the retard unit with premium fuel, even. I wish I could do the math, not sure what level of pressure you could run to match the 10.25:1 CR on the 810 kit.
