Gpz 750 ZX750 A, Cam question
01 Nov 2010 16:10
Hey Guys,
I was just wondering if any of the GPZ 750 non - turbo cams had the tach worm on them? And if they will work as a intake cam for my 750, if I change out the sprokets?
Much Appreciated,
Thanks

You need to check base circle size between your cam and the one you intend to put in. They dinked around with different base circles on 750's.

Alrite I'll check it out. I am guess that the exhaust cam wouldn't work as a intake cam, now that I think of it, because the wear direction would be in different direction...am I right? or is that out in left field?
The reason I am asking about the cam, is because i want to up grade on the intake cam on my 81' kz750, like it say in a few of the threads, but its been a hard searching for a intake cam for a gpz 750, and I found a gpz 750 exhaust cam on ebay from a nonturbo, and was wondering if it would work.
Thanks guys

You'd want an intake cam from a GPz.
I did an 82 head a while back. The exhaust cam had a smaller base circle than the Intake cam did. So, that being the case, you might run into a situation where you'd have excessive lash that shims couldn't take up.
A GPz exhaust cam probably isn't going to be much, if any upgrade anyway. Generally the exhaust cams have less lift.
83 model had the hottest cams as I recall.

Hello, my name is Felix from The Netherlands.
I just found that I have the situation which is mentioned here.
I dropped in 1984 ZX750 cams into my 1982 KZ motor, but the exhaust cam has too much clearance now. Something to do with base circles (1 mm difference - a LOT to compensate with shims...
Can I put in the original (1982) exhaust cam (while keeping the ZX intake cam)? Will this run right? or will my motor explode/start guzzling/...?
Thanks in advance
Felix
