KZ400 engine flush? was created by Kitten Tooth
How would i go about flushing out an engine that had tons of water in it? i already drained the oil from the motor and about 6-7 quarts of nastiness poured out, 4 of them being white sludgy goo (oil contaminated by water).. i know there has to be sludge in there still so how would i go about flushing it out? What should i use, just more oil? Also, will water ruin an ACgenerator just by it getting rusty? The water got in through the ACgenerator cover somehow.. probably no gasket.. Alls i know is that the starter clutch wont engage, it just spins.. i know it needs work.. what should i do?

After draining oil and removing filter, could replace drain screw and filter cap, then fill crankcase with WD40 (available in gallon cans).

Don't start the engine.

Don't start the engine.

Okay to briefly rotate engine with electric starter or kick starter, or hand rotate using 17mm nut on end of crank under points cover.

Idea is to slosh the WD40 around to flush internal parts and absorb water.
WD = Water Displacement.

WD40 is also an excellent oil remover. It is not a lubricant.

Then drain really well -- say overnight.

After well-drained, the crankcase should be reasonably clean inside, and moisture-free.

May then refill with new oil and filter as usual.

Wouldn't hurt to hand-rotate, or briefly spin over engine without starting, in order to get the new oil circulating and pre-lubing the internal parts.

There may be better methods, but that's how I would proceed in this situation.

Good Fortune! :)

Some motorcycle alternators rely on a little oil from the crankcase for lubrication.
Would examine lubrication diagram (engine oil flow chart) in the FSM.

Could spray some WD40 in this area to displace existing moisture, and leave the alternator cover off during repairs and testing.

Good Fortune! :)

I like the WD40 idea too.

Another way of spinning over is take out the plugs, have the back wheel lifted off, centerstand or jacked up, pull the gear shifter up in to 5th gear.
And with plugs out you can rotate everything by hand including the tranny gears.
When you do try and run it throw some Marvels Mystery oil in the crackcase a quart with 2 quarts of cheap oil.
Run that mixture for about 5 minutes and drain that.
Thats what I would do.
Marvels in the gas too. 2oz. to a gallon.
If it runs, go run the hell out of it for about an hour at highway speeds, any leftover moisture will evaporate.

I plan on throwing this into a riding lawnmower or making my own frame to have a badass gokart.. Ill do this WD-40 thing and then ill kick the hell out of it with that kicker lever. Ill let you guys know what happens..

I would drop the oil pan and clean it out with mineral spirits and/or acetone spray.. If the engine has been sitting, the inside will be gunked up. Wait until you see what's on the inside of the oil pan.

acetone is great for drying things out. take the oilpan off and squirt some acetone in there. If taking the oilpan off you see everything is rusty and brown you at least will know it's pooched without having to buy the WD40...
