welded advance unit? was created by 55fbomb
I got a decent deal on a used dyna ignition of ebay and the dude sent the whole advance unit instead of just the end with the magnet on it. anyway, the advance unit is welded at full advance. why would someone do this and would it hurt anthing to run it in a stock engine? also, how would i time it with a timing light with it in full advance at idle? i have my stock advance unit i can use, i just wondered if there is a good reason to use the one that is welded at full advance?

What type of Dyna? Some Dynas use electronic advance so the mechanical advancer must be fixed stationary.

If it's the Dyna S or Dyna III, you will want to use your working advancer. In that case I don't know why he'd weld it full advance... maybe for drag racing?

The Unit came from a dragracer.
Drag bike engines use the full advance curve for high RPM.
You need to use your stock unit. At idle there is about 5-7 degrees timing and over 2-2500 RPM the timing is fully advanced to 30-40 degrees depending on years and engines.
