Hey all. Many thanks to those who helped with the previous posts on cam degree-ing. the bike is running awesome ! Looking at an oil cooler based on the engine mod's that I've done. Ebay has a model 600 cooler with built-in thermostat advertised for Harley's. Can't help but think its fine for all bikes, but wanted forum feedback. Any think to worry about with the internal thermo ? I definitely want a temp control, so this would be a very clean installation. Coolers from JEG's or Summit are much cheaper, but then you have to plumb in the thermostat. Into appreciated. thanks Jeff B

and you can buy the lines and fitting off summit relativly cheap and you still gotta get a oil cooler adapter either way and i wouldnt buy a cooler if its used EVER!!! one simple reason if the motor it came off of had problems and got metal shavingings in the cooler then you put it on your bike where do you think the shavings will go? and you cant completely clean all shavings out either

Hey, powerstroke, thanks for the reply. You're absolutely corerct about the "used" oil cooler thing. Work in contruction equipment hydraulics, and I know for a fact that if something in the system lets go, the cooler is a collection point and you can NEVER get them clean. This cooler is brand new. I plan on getting the "engineered" motor fittngs from an after-market suppler. Also, your right that oldmankaw has an aweswome website !! Your bike looks great. Good luck with it.

You can have a radiator shop boil out the used cooler, and they can also flow check it for you, to see if there are any restrictions inside.

Like that of a radiator, the oil needs to flow slow enough through the cooler to actually cool the fluid, so a thermostat or an in-line restrictor will do this. Most fluid thermostats I've had fail, end up sticking in the closed position. Just make sure you're getting air to the cooler itself.

Fab yourself up some brackets and secure to side reflector mounting holes....

Pretty much everything required... Now if you require, you can install a thermo switch, Jeggs has them for around $69-$80 for manual/auto switching....

BTW... Those OLDkaw setup images..... Egad :S ...
