OK a question. What is the purpose of the 6 rubber dampers or plugs that fit into holes on the bottom of the cylinder / jugs on a kz650? In the picture below the part is #4. I just am not sure what the are for, or why they are there. Just trying to learn something.

sorry i was just funnin...well others will know the exact answer...

but..... if they are not o-rings where studs/bolts.. and oil come into contact......then they are in between fins???? and in that case it takes a buzz out of the bike that would make it to the riders contact points.. or a pinging out of the idle...but that is just my deduction and i'm sure you guessed that already....

If I recall, they are for reducing vibration noise from the fins.

I believe the dampners are there to reduce the resonation at certain rpm's of the fins. To demonstrate, the next time your bike is at idle, slowly bring the rpm's up, noticing what buzzes or shakes as the engine turns faster, usually hand control levers and foot pegs.

With the fin dampners removed, the engine might have a "Ringing Sound" at highway speeds making your hearing affected.
