Anti-smog crap was created by KZ1979LTD
Hey Guru's,

I started installing the Accel coils on my 79' LTD. Man is it crowded under there with the anti-smog hoses and crap! Where can I find a complete post detailing the process of removing the stuff, jumping a hose from one side to the other, and what to do at the airbox? Do you have to fool with the reed valves under each cover? I could only find bits and pieces on the process in the forum and not the whole process desription. Thanks Tom

u can leave all the engine stuff in place, remove the smog stuff and run a hose from one side vent to the other.U can remove the smog stuff, cap off the hose vents individually and leave all engine stuff alone.U can buy APE covers, remove the stock smog stuff (including covers) for a cleaner look, which is what I did.I just left the reed valves in place as they have no function if block ed off.I blocked off my top airbox inlet with a rubber plug I found in my parts bin.U need the airbox to be as tight as possible airflow wise otherwise might be too lean. This do it for ya?.bj .

It is as simple as running a hose from one side to the other, cap off the vacuum line from the carb and I used one of these to plug the hole in the air box. You do NOT need to remove the reeds. If you like a cleaner look you can get a pair of these: tinyurl.com/2fdsnvp

EDIT: APE also makes a prettier pair of block offs.

SECOND EDIT: BJ types faster than me. :P

If can find a valve cover from Canada they don't have the holes at all.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I plan on getting the APE covers down the road, I just needed a quick fix to get her back on the road tomorrow. How or what did you use to block off the tubes running to the carbs?

Pull the vacuum line off the carb port and just put a rubber vacuum cap on the carb. Any auto parts store should have the vacuum caps. Bring the hose to match the size you need. :P

Automotive stores will have vacuum caps, yes, but they deteriorate very quickly on bikes. You're lucky to get more than a season or two out of them.

I block them off with a piece of fuel line that I seal off with a smooth allen head screw that I cut the threads off of. Make sure the screw does not fit into the brass nipple, for obvious reasons.
