Bent valves 1974 z1 900 with kz 1000 head. was created by oldkaws4ever
Sorry for not being around at all lately. I have been riding the z1 everyday this past summer. Well I must have revved the old girl up to high and ben the valves when i was out riding this last weekend If you guy's remember i replaced the z1 900 head with the kz 1000 head when i rebuilt it the last time, now my question now is, can i use my z1 900 valves in the kz 1000 head?

Yup...just be sure to use the proper split-keepers.

Well the Tach cable bit the bullet early on in the ride, i'm guessing i was at 9000 or so. I tagged 4 of em the only cylinder that came out unscaved was #2. Live and learn i guess .......... lol.

sorry to hear that...you must really be abusing that motor to have it dump on you...i have had close to 15 z's and never "blew" a motor...now crashing...that is my strong point....even that i have broken myself of these later yrs...
it does amaze me though that bikes are constantly turning up broken on this site....except for changing oil,the occasional valve adjustemnt and a few regulator rectifiers...i have never ,ever, had any trouble with Z-1,KZ1000,KZ900,LTD1000,Z1R,GPZ 1100, ect...ect........
I'm sorry to hear your bike is down...
if you are banging it that hard the rest of the stuff should be replaced at the same time...all timing and piston and springs ect...imo....it must be well used...
good luck

Hey Jim,
Well keep in mind, tag her @ 9K when considering if these were original 30 year old valves, yeah they've been around for quite some time now.... Have had some hot shot young man (Jim) twisting her hard for the adrenalin rush/pull all these years...
May want to consider new Kibble White valves & springs... especially if your running the old girl hard as it seems you are.... :woohoo:
Damn kids these days...

I have revd my GPz well over 11K numerous times and not bent any valves yet. I take it to 9K regularly in every other shift. You must not have built the head right or adjusted something wrong to have bent them. How do you know that you bent them? Did you visually check them? Or is the engine just doing something to make you think you did? By the way, don't you owe me something from the last time you stopped over?

9000 is about the limit for stock springs. You might want to consider good springs when you put it back together.

Oldkaws4ever...you've had a destructive/expensive season after throwing a rod on the 650 on the way to Rockerbox. Ah well, breakin' stuff just forces ya to get new stronger stuff!
