BIKE GOES DEAD ON HIGHWAY

----I am driving and hear: "crack, crack, crack" real loud ----
my bike shuts of and I pull over. 2 days before my rear wheel skidded a couple times on a stop and locked up a bit --- only after charging the highway at 80.
Now, my bike won't start at all. I thought my engine seized, however, a friend said that if you can turn the bolt on either the stator or ignition coils side, then the bike probably hasn't seized.
My oil was completely dry though.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT MY BIKE WON'T START and I need some advice.
It gets gas, blah blah blah.
I just can't get the engine to crank over when I push the starter button.

The smaller engined bikes had standard bearings requiring a higher pressure oiling system. Possibly driving with low to no oil has seized the crank bearings or pistons and rings in the cylinders.

KZ550 LTD 1981, sorry bout the lack of info.

If the bearings ran dry and siezed the engine, the starter won't be able to turn it over.
Remove the spark plugs and try kicking it over with the kick starter.

Get out the tools and service, No Oil  is not good, don't care how bullet proof these old beasts are for they need OIL to operate...
You open up the valve cover yet?
If so, what did ya find...
Timing chain snap on ya?
Timing chain tensioner still in tact?
If chain still intact, timing still in spec on cam gear markings to TDC? Translation, timing chain jump some teeth...
In popping off the head, timing gears/guides still intact?
Drop the oil pan, metal pieces?
Blow a hole in a piston?
We could sit here and speculate on all the possibilities but opening her up will tell ya a lot of what is and not....
Sorry but get out the tools, you have a long weekend ahead of ya....

Not to make light of your situation, but I've always wanted a button that I could just press to get a chick.
