78 Z1R numbers

I am buying a 78 z1r and need to know if the vin # match the engine #? What should they be? How does it affect value? Any info would help.

This question comes up a lot. Matching numbers does NOT mean the engine & frame serial numbers are the same digits. It means the engine and vin( frame) numbers match the numbers the bike left the plant with. It's not unusual to see the frame and engine numbers be 200 - 500 apart in Z1/KZ 's.I've only seen one or two with same digits frame & engine numbers.

Good resource to check is www.zedder.com . Brand/Model and cc.& year-the vin & engine serial number ranges used are listed.Pretty reliable checking my bikes/cases so far.

So to be sure, the Z1-R numbers should fall within a range of 500 or so, correct? What about the other models and years....1978 A model for example, 1979 A model? Basically all kaws from '73 through '80 should have engine and frame numbers within about 500, is that correct?

For example, based on the Zedder info shown below, this Z1-R would NOT have the original engine, right?

Wow, I guess I'll just ask the above question about the '78 Z1-R. I just realized that the '79 MKII can't even be close to that range, according to Zedder. They are way off!
