My bike had been hard to start when cold, low comp.not rings, im sure its the valves, when it warms up the comp. is 120 to 125 per cylender. when cold 40 to 50 psi. i have been putting 85 octain gas in it, my friend said posibly carbon build up around the valves. is there a good additive that will clean them? and what all should i do, octain boost, add a lot of cleaner to the tank.
A properly tuned engine will continue to run for many years if not abused, and the jetting is correct. I would deffinately fix the condition causing this issue, rather than throw a band-aid on the resulting problem.
Could be a combination of too rich at a comonly used throttle position, and oil leaking past valve seals, making for a nasty combo piling up on the valves/seats.
You can just pull off the carbs/header and have a look with a mini mirror and flashlight.
Or... you can just throw some crap in the tank every so often!
Good luck!

EDIT
Here is a reprint of my instructions on how to properly use the "Combustion Chamber Cleaner.
All of the following items will do the job the same way. I bought a case from the eBay seller because it was the most inexpensive.
This is what I do. The best way to use the "spray" combustion chamber cleaner" is to;
1) heat up the engine to full operational temperature.
2) remove the spark plugs while hot.
3) Set pistons "about" half way between TDC and BDC.
4) Spray in the cleaner until it comes out the hole.
5) replace the spark plugs immediately.
6) wait until the engine cools down, or till next morning.
7) go for a VERY BRISK ride for about half an hour.
repeat step 1-7, 3-4 times.
Now you have a clean engine
9) use the Lucas in every tank.
10) step 1-7 may or may not be required about every 10,000 mi dependent on how much oil you burn. This is what my pistons looked like after more than 24,000 miles after doing steps 1-8.
