camshaft tensioner adjustment was created by murr50
i am looking to adjust the camshaft tensioner on my kz 650, but there is a dyna s ignition installed on it. the owners manual says to turn the crankshaft so the 1.4 or 2.3 timing marks are aligned. unfortunately i did not install the electronic ignition and do not see any allignment marks.... is there something else i should be looking for? thanks for the help

Through the timing inspection window, align the T mark with case mark which positions crankshaft at top dead center on either 1/4 or 2/3 (it doesn't matter which), all to allow most slack on rear side of cam chain whereby adjuster produces most effect.

Be sure it's the T mark and not the F mark that aligns with the case mark.

Good Fortune! :)

Above pics are with Kawasaki I.C. Igniter style electronic ignition.

The Dyna-S also has a round mounting back plate, but different pick-up modules and a different rotor.

Both ignitions use the stock advancer.

Good Fortune! :)

Actually that's not the correct procedure, at least on the 650, but I bet it would work fine. The correct way is to turnthe engine over clockwise with the 17mm nut on the end of the crankshaft until you pass the 2-3 timing marks. Continue till the corner shown in my artistic drawing below aligns with the timing pointer. Stop there, loosen your 10mm jamnut and bolt on the tensioner, spring tension takes up slack, retighten the bolts and you're done.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
