what is the valve seat angle of a KZ1100 head? I'm swopping head of my KZ 900 and do need tp perform a valve seat job on the KZ1100 head, model Spectre. It seems to have only one angle but I do not have the specs.

45 degrees.
hold two valves together(one up one down) with the contact faces touching and the stems should run parallel to each other.

the face angle like leon has said is 45 degrees but in order to narrow the face up you will have to do a minimium of 3 cuts i personally do 5 angles on my performance heads the top cut for a standard decent valve job is a 30 degree the face 45 degree and the bottom cut is a 60 degree. for a 5 angle job i also do a 15 degree top cut and a 75 degree bottom cut.

it's the J head, built in 1982, not a gpz, this one has a drive shaft.
would a 3 angel job seriously improve top end?? I'm using the head on my KZ900 with a big bore 1200cc and 0.395 webcams plus 34 BS carbs. Wondering how much HP it should do. Intake has been ported a little...

a new valve job(while possibly necessary) is not going to be one of the things that you will be able to notice making your bike pull harder.whether it is 3/5/7 angle or full radius the size of the valve and the size of the port are going to be what dictate how your bike pulls(along with cams carb and exhaust).

I second or third, the 3 angle valve job, but in addition,if you grind the valve at 45, grind the seat at 44, this gives you a 1 degree off set, this helps the valve seat in faster since it has a " egde " to make it seat.

also make sure that the valves and guides are WELL oiled during assembly, the vlave is the last place to get oil to it when the bike is first started

In most situations I would agree with the 1* difference in angles. But in our case I do not. The reason for that is that you will have to re-shim the cams every 500mi or so until the valves seat. Just make the angles both 45* and lap them very well. You will also find out that the "J" head will not make that much difference over your 900 head. They flow almost the same until you do some serious porting. In stock configuration there is only a 2CFM difference between the two. The big difference is in the GPZ head, or the porting potential between the "J" head and the KZ head. Look at this link and it will explain it better than most of us can.

every valve job you do is a 3 angle at the very least you have to cut 3 angles just to place the seat contact area in the right postion and get it the right thicknessusally if your cutting an interfence angle into a seat its 46 degrees that the cutters that readily available from neway. my self personally i set much stock in the interferance cuts not really worth it on the street in my opinion. but you know what they say about opinions, right. the next valve seat cutting set-up i'll be looking getting is probably going to be a serdi they are nice because they made to cut all the angles in one pass.

The NEWAY stuff is good too. A upgrade there with a power cutter head? Or maybe you have that already.
I can say from using them that the Single carbide cutter with all 3 angles on it was the GO! That shop had all the good stuff, and a great Reputation, sorry it was a VW/Porsche shop not Bikes. Sure learned a lot working there though.
