If the kickstarter is the issue then the 550 swap into a 650 is not doable, BUT the swap to a 750 IS??? Can someone clear this up.

The GPz750 does not have a kickstarter. The KZ650 did. It apparently interfered with the 6-speed, for whatever reason.

Best of luck k_k with the tranny swap. You know some folks call the KZ550's starter bikes, but the 6 speed tranny is one of the things that makes them a real blast to ride, especially in places where there are mountains, canyons and twisties like around here:laugh:

O.K., if by regular 750, you mean the KZ750E (its a 4 banger, and I have one of those too) it has no kickstarter either and I see no reason why it would not fit.
If you mean the 750 twin, I have no knowledge of that bike. Perhaps steell could answer that question. He's a twinner.

oldcoldankles, thanks. I know with all three of my bikes, I keep reaching for that 6th gear. I had 2 RD350s and a GS750E, all of which had 6 gears. They were a blast to row through the gears, and I don't recall ever reaching for 7th gear. Of course, at my age, there is a lot I don't recall...
It reminds me of when I put a close-ratio 4 speed in my 67 mustang. I didn't have any greater range of gearing, but it was a blast to keep the engine in the peak when reaching for the next gear.

But the main purpose is going to be Deal's Gap, which will be a (at least) yearly trek from now on.

2 hours from the Dragon, and a GPZ750 to boot. LMK when you are coming through, want to check out that 810, I'm gonna have to go that route next year.

84 GPZ750. Modded with stock Kawasaki parts: ZR-7 shock, ZX-6 coils, GPZ1100 throttle, EN454 brake, GPZ900 fuse box, etc. and non stock: Ken Sears mirrors, K&N filter, Pirelli Sport Demons.

Sometimes life just isn't fair. To me.
That area has the sweetest roads I have ever riden. If you want to take it easy, you can do long winding sweepers. If you want to have your heart in your throat, you can slay the Dragon. That was also the first time I rode through the clouds. Awesome.
Congrats, I am jealous.

I could have told you the widths of the 550 gears a couple of hours ago, but I already buttoned up the bottom end. The GPz750 gears are in a box, so if you want the tooth width, I can measure those for you.

Thanks Koolaid. Yes I am refering to the 750/4.
So It is possible to fit a 550 non gpz 6 speed into a 750 block. Right
