Per FSM, just the o-ring and no sealant.

Good Fortune! :)

Jim,

Use either the O ring or silicone for the cam chain tunnel with 2 piece gaskets.

I would use some case sealer around the outside stud holes where the oil comes up to the head. In fact, I'd run a dab right around the outside edge of the gasket, all the way around.

If you have the money, get the head surfaced, just enough to make it straight. Generally takes .005 - .008".

Don't try to remove all of the triangle shape divot that the head gaskets often cause. Just make the head flat.

Re-torque the head nuts after you heat cycle the motor one time. Make sure it's stone cold for that.

Check them again in 100 miles.

It really helps to fight off oil leaks :)

Just to clarify things for the OP, the "O-rings" that the big guys (Plummen and Jay) are talking about are on top of the block deck and are separate from the cam chain tunnel. I couldn't find a pic of these on a Z1/KZ engine but this pic will give you an idea. Note the copper wire around the top of the cylinder.

Tony, You may be right!!! I had a gasket set for a 1015cc and never gave it athought. Glad you were on top of it. With all the trouyble with copper gaskets I may try to find a one or two piece through some supplier. Thanks again, that could have been trouble!

1075 gaskets used to be 2 piece set. There may still be some from NOS kicking around.

Tony, Is your Cometic fiber or copper? If it's fiber I will simply order one and forget about the Copper.
Thanks Jim

Thanks to everyone for their help with this. Sometimes you get carried away and forget the details. Just ordered a Cometic fiber gasket for the 1075 from Schitz racing. Thanks again.
