1075cc head gasket question??? was created by lewisj
I am assembling the head gasket on a rebuild 1075 z1. I have a 1 piece copper gasket and also a 2 piece paper gasket with the center o-ring. Is one better than the other? If I do use the 1 piece copper gasket, can I still use the o-ring or just fill the groove with hi temp sealant? Thanks for the help!!

use the 2 piece gasket, copper gasket requires each cylinder to be o ringed to seal oil leaks

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

You talking about the o'rings in the top of the sleeves?

I have installed o-rings in the cylinder sleeves that fit into the cases. Are there o-rings that fit between the cylinders and the head?

One other thing for now, do you use any gasket sealants or yamabond 4 with the 2 piece head gasket? Thanks Jim

Have encountered thr oposite too. The o'rings in the sleeves are to control cylinder pressure. However, we have seen cases where the gasket is not soft enough and not using good studs, has caused the o'rings to hold the gasket up off the block, which lets oil pour out everywhere.

Getting copper gaskets to not leak oil is a challenge.

Spraying them with Copper Coat several times, allowing it to get tacky dry between c oats, seams to work best.

Unless you have to run racing compression, go with a composite head gasket.

I like this on copper gaskets

LarryC,
I will be running 10.5:1 compression. Sounds like the 2 piece gasket is the popular opinion so I will go with it. Do you use silicone AND the o-ring in the center groove or just one/ Also, do you use any Yamabond 4 or Sealant with the composite (Cometic)gasket? Thanks Larry , Your expertise is greatly appreciated!
