I have been kicking around the idea of sawing up my stock pipes on my 77 KZ1000 to make a tri-Y type header. my question is, are the stock 4-2 pipes worth saving or should i cut them up? there are no holes in them anywhere but the chrome is pretty crappy on them, i dont know if a good cleaning would even do any good, they are pretty rusty and pitted. what do you guys think, cut em up or sell them?

 What's a tri-Y type header?

Before cutting, would check ebay to check worth of stock system in similar condition.

i would basically like to use the header pipes and join 1 and 4 and then 2 and 3 under the bike and then join the 2 of them together under the bike, a 4 into 1 just with a little better ground clearance, i wouldnt have a 2x2 collector under the bike. i checked ebay but didnt find anything too similar to the condition of mine.

Sound insane to me. If there in good shape hang em up in the garage. Go ebay some junk pipes and make your exhaust contraption. Best bet is to keep the stock within reach
You'll thank me later

and the Kawi god Stockus Bestus Non Molestus wakes up,hears the issue and begins to rumble,"Oh ye Mortal that would defile precious parts by cutting, consider ye the punishment.Ye shall be sentenced to hauling 300 pound women who look like OMR and Plummen around Hades on the back of 50cc Honda Passports whilst they torque thy nads with 20mm wrenches.Ye have been warned."Get it?bj
