oil pressure switch for 81 440LTD - where?

According to the numbers it seems correct. I should have looked up the numbers myself, but was just basing it on the connector type.

Yup, still doesn't say at what pressure the switch is supposed to ground to activate the light, only operating oil pressure at 4000RPM hot.

Well I got the new switch and put it on. All appears well after the first 20 miles or so.....

Just for fun I got some 1/8 PT plugs ( that is what the KZ manual says the oil switch has for threads) to try to insert as backup to stop an oil leak if the switch goes bad....but it appears that kawasaki has different threads....they appear to be finer than the standard 1/8 PT fitting threads I have. Looking at it a little closer I think it is a 10mm thread.....with 10 threads per 10mm.

Also, I tried testing the old switch for continuity off the bike. I would think that it would read 0 ohms from the terminal to the body or the threads of the switch....and it reads open.....I think that means the switch is not working and it wouldn't have helped if a situation really did occur. I did not test the new switch for that issue....but the light was on and went off when the bike fired up.....but that also occurred for the old leaky switch...so I'm confused now:unsure:

I'm also in the process of replacing a leaky oil switch. I checked with my multimeter and the air hose and it doesn't take much pressure to open the switch up.

In fact I can blow enough pressure myself to open the normally closed switch on the oil sensor. I guess I'm just full of hot air!

So I'm sure it's less than 5PSI as I don't have to blow too hard to open the switch.

from what I gather on these 440's, the fitting for the oil switch is a 10 mm extra fine pipe thread. I am trying to find an adapter with a 10mm fine thread male and a standard 1/8 " PT that I can attach any bike pressure switch to for the job....or even a simple gauge.

I am hoping to ride this bike this summer.  Finding many little things to pick at.

This is how I found the bike when I got it the other week…

Why would anybody weld up the Oil Pressure Switch if you don't have oil you don't get far I have run 400s and 440s for 40 Years now and never had a problem the 440 runs a low pressure high volume oil lubrication system and the Oil pressure Switch used was used on most Kawasaki's from that era so there shouldn't be a problem finding one. The way to Test one is very Simple connect the +Tester to the Top and the - to the thread and then gently push the right size Rod up the oil Hole and the tester should register a connection.

I use a switch from Autozone.
Once you figure out the thread size, it's pretty easy to find a switch that fits.
I swapped the top terminal from my old switch to the new one so I didn't have to change the stock electrical connector.
That replacement switch is now 6 years old.
