dyno charts
22 Aug 2010 13:05
Would anybody have a dyno chart or info on peak torque/rpm and peak hp/rpm of a stock 2002 KZ1000P police bike? Thank you. Motor is a 1000J with dual exhausts.

i dont have a dyno sheet for your bike but im gonna guess somewhere in the neighborhood of of 70-75 at the rear wheel depending on what area the bike came from.
i wouldnt also guess that with the extra weight of a fully dressed cop bike it would be geared fairly low to get it rolling and should be realistically done making power by around 7000-7500 .

Thanks, it is geared low. I'm looking for a dyno chart to see where I may get maximum MPG (at peak torque) for long distance touring. I just bought the bike and am liking it a lot. It's a tank alright.

Dyno charts have to be taken with a grain of salt if they're DynoJet numbers...
New DJ dynos can read much lower than previous models. Seems they took the fudge factor out of their electronics
I know someone who bought a new DJ a few months back. It reads near 30HP less on GSXR1000 motors than the 1996 dyno model did......

From what I've learned about dyno's this ypast year, having a "pull" done without an air/fuel readout is a waste of time. You gotta know.
I've had a 3 dyno runs on my GPz550 Race Bike, and all because I changed something from the initial run. I used the same dyno location, and had the same guy operate it. The first run was done, because I just wanted to know, and the Dyno Jet Stage 3 Settings(as per the instructions) were leaving my spark plugs with no color on them(lean) . After the first run, I changed the mixture screws settings and raised the needles(lowered the clip), then restested. Much better air/fuel ratio, and a little better power, with the only other recommendation to drop the main jets 2 sizes(134 to 132).
The last visit to that same dyno, I had the same carbs, but added a big bore 615cc Kit, installed the 132 mains, and again, I wanted to know the air/fuel, for the engine's sake. Well, I found out the settings before were spot on, and all he recommended was to drop the main jets 2 sizes to 128's for a little leaner top end. The needles were as high as they could go, so shimming or upgrading was my only other option.
I'm now upgrading the maxed-out stock TK27 Carbs on the 615 kit, to CV30 Carbs from a Zephyr ZR550, and adding my Megacycle Cams I've had reconditioned for almost 2 years, just waiting to install them in place of the stock ZX550 Cams. I'll have the carbs and engine tuned at Factory Pro on their EC997 Dyno in a few weeks, then in the next race I have in October, I'll have it redyno'ed on the same Dyno Jet Dyno as I have in the past, just to compare the differences from the last runs.
Side note, another guy I know had his all stock '85 GPz550(other than a drop-in K&N) dynoed on a Dyno Jet Dyno in Florida, and his numbers were the same as my race engine. He even showed the graph with the 3 runs, but no air/fuel. So is his 550 really putting out as much torque and power as my 615? I doubt it. Not all dyno's are created equal.

No doubt Corey.
I spoke to someone recently who had an 84 GPZ11 dynoed. It was stock and laid down 120 RWHP

I can give you mine but it is not a police bike:1982 KZ1000 CSR,J spec cams,BS34 Mikunis,Vance and Hines exhaust,Dyna S ignition, stock gearing (15 front/39 rear),stock size tires=83.25 RWHP at 8800 rpm.bike was still pulling hard at 9500 rpm when rev limiter shut it down, but the curve had already started going the wrong way.Lol.If I can scrape the bucks together,I hope a Larry C head rework will give it a 100.Hope this helps.bj
