Steering stem spanner wrench was created by oppie501
Hey guys, I have a 77 kz 1000. I need to properly tighten the steering head nut. The book shows setting the preload on steering stem bearings with a spanner wrench. Anybody know where i can get one? I have seen something similar on e-bay, but was sold as a shock spanner wrench. Are they the same size?
Thanks

The spanner wrench is the "best tool for the job", but you can get away with large channel locks.
They canbe had by just about any mechanic tools place on the net. Eg. Harbor Freight Tools

When things get to tight for the locks, then a flathead screwdriver and a mallet/hammer works fine to "knock" things into the correct place. Stick the driver in the notches and tap it around... dont forget to change notches as you go.

Setting steering stem resistance is a feel thing anyways.
I like to get it slightly tighter than most. The bars still fall "lock - to - lock", but it takes just a slight more slide for me.
