KZ650 overheating, in saint john, NB was created by fd2003
I have a kz650 which i have put a ltd750 bottom end and a gpz750 top end. I have a dyna s ignition, when I drive around town it overheats but on the highway its fine. I have an oil cooler on the bike, the plugs are a light tan and the timing is right on the money, any suggestions.

If it's overheating it's got to be lean. The fact that it's overheating around town indicates that lean condition is occurring before the higher rpm ranges of highway speed. I'd try raising the needle one step on the carbs and see if it doesn't cure your woes.

How are you determining that it's overheating?

Oil pressure to spec at low rpm?
Increased rpm equates to increased pressure...

Highway run equates to increased air flow over the engine... Same principle in running your engine in the garage... Need a cooling fan aimed at her....

Runs rough which way?
i.e. loss of power, misses in the ignition timing, pipes glowing red or more of electrical where coils/rectifier/regulator may be breaking down a tad....

Just a thought...
