I have a 1982 440LTD. It sat in the garage over the winter, got it out a few weeks ago, and it started up like a champ. I've been riding it to work occasionally (although its damn cold) and haven't had too much trouble.

I looked things over today after I got home from work, and noticed that the spark plugs both had some residue around them. They also looked wet. Could I have oil or gas leaking out here? Is this normal? The one is getting rusty too, but thats the side that points up when its on its side stand.

Check the following pics out and let me know what you think.

I don't think you will have gas or oil leaking around the area in the pics from the spark plugs. I would change the plugs in any case, as they have crushable gaskets and some carbon looks like it is getting by the threads plus the rust on the one plug is ugly. You will probably be just fine otherwise. By the way... what is cold?

Good advice George as new plugs are cheap and easy maintenance.
By the way...don't y'all have winter in Mico?

I change my spark plugs every season. Put in new plugs first, and keep checking the plugs for a while, if they are still getting sooty/wet, you might want to check the voltage going into the coil (just check the red wire with a chassis ground), if its low compared to the voltage in the batt, you should look into the WG coil mod. That would be my first step if the problem persists, because it is so easy to fix. If that doesn't work, you may be running rich.

Good luck!

Good plan. I think I may actually have an extra set lying around from when I was trying to troubleshoot some problems last summer. In any case, I better pop those two off and investigate further.

By the way... what is cold?

I really don't like riding when its under 30F. Anything between 30F and 40F is still a bit chilly. When we hit 40F and above, its clear sailing. Luckily my ride to work in the morning is less than 10 miles.
