Could you please explain to me what the spring, pin and rollers do in the starter clutch. And when they are worn out and need replacing, how do they affect my starter. When I attempt to start the bike, the starter just spins and does not engage. New parts are ordered from Z1. Thanks Don

The rollers cause friction against the starter clutch hub when the starter spins with respect to the crankshaft. When the engine fires, the crankshaft starts "leading" the clutch (spinning ahead with respect to the clutch) which releases the clamp on the clutch hub. The springs allow the rollers to spin outward (due to centrifugal force or radial acceleration) as the shaft RPM increases so the rollers don't touch the clutch hub while the engine is running.

If the starter just spins, it sounds like one or more rollers can't properly engage the hub maybe because it isn't free to move in and out.

Alot of times the starter clutch - to - stator magnet bolts can come loose and wreak havoc in there.

Make sure they are all torqued down good (spec = 30 ft.lbs), with some red thread locker.
