New to the whole shimmed valve adjustment thing.

I noticed (luckily) that in my Kawasaki Manual in the 1984 Supplement (p399) the 1984 GPz750 has a valve clearance of 0.13mm - 0.23mm, inlet & exhaust compared to everything else (including 1983 ZX750-GPz A1 on p359) having 0.08mm - 0.18mm.

Does this sound right?

Curious why they'd increase the valve lash 0.05mm with the same cam??

Also this looks like I have to go DOWN one shim size from what's listed in the shim table?

Also does anyone know what the diameter of the 84 GPz750 shims is?

None of the local shops have any and I wanted to locate possible sources BEFORE I start as I do dearly love riding this beast (I commute 65 miles each way on it) on the twisties here in WNC.

Any advice or thoughts?

I've been reading the threads on setting the valves, strangely I cannot log into the Archives section though.

thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure the 650 shims are the same, and my best guess is they are 10-12mm in dianeter.

I have no idea why they increased the clearance while staying in a 10 mm range.

Do you need to log in to the archives in order to search? I don't know because my browser automagically logs me in there. I don't think I have ever logged in there with Opera, so maybe I'll give that a try.

I did it the easy way and just logged out. I could still search and read the topics and posts though.

I'm too doing valve clearance adjustment on 84 gpz750A2.
So, is the right clearance 0.13mm - 0.23 or 0.08mm - 0.18mm?

Maybe I should take up a cheaper hobby. Horse racing for example.

Its a 13mm shim. Same as all the KZ550/4's, KZ650/4's, KZ750/4's, GPz750's, and 83/84 GPz1100's.

There should be a specification chart on your seat pan with all the common specs for your bike.

If I remember right, don't the 83/85 GPz750's have a different clearance spec for the intake, and the exhaust. Its been 25 years since I did valve adjustment on a ZX750A!!!

There is no such info on seat pan.

Everywhere on internet stands for 650 and 750a1 valve clearance of 0.08mm - 0.18mm, and only on 1984 A2 service manual stands 0.13mm - 0.23. That seems odd.
