Transmission gears....should I be able.

Should I be able to feel the notches in the shifter (like on a car) when I manually turn the knob? Cycle off of course. KZ1000P.

Right not I have 2 notches. Neutral (cause the sprocket spins) and in gear, thats it.

I dont know the mechanics of a motorcycle to know if this is correct. To me it doesnt seem right. If this is in fact broke, how do I go about fixing...what is the cause.

Thanks

sweet, thanks. I got this thing but never rode it before I tore it down for a rebuild, wanted to make sure before I set sail :)

bike will not shift to second gear unless output shaft is spinning.neutral and first is all you should get if bike is not moving.;)

Would the careful perusal of a manual be advisable before "weighing anchor"??
