Mission Cover was created by ed spangler
Good Morning
I am going to be removing the "Mission Cover" from side of engine/ transmission to replace Countershaft /Front Sprocket shaft seal and gaskets.
I am looking at the cover and wondering if I will be able to remove the "Mission Cover" with engine still in frame? Isn't obvious to me.
Anyone ever had to remove this cover before? Did you do it with engine in frame?
Advice?
Thanks!!

No need to remove the motor- I would suggest that you lean the bike over slightly to the right to prevent oil from leaking out when you take the "mission " cover off. I guess mission cover is the Japanese short form of transmission cover...

If you are doing the counter sprocket that cover will come off with the peg and shifter removed.

Sorry! Guess I was not clear.
1975 Z1-B 900 Kawasaki
Counter sprocket will be done and the ( polished ) cover for that is already off, problem is a leaking selector shaft seal and "Mission Cover" thats the cover BEHIND the countershaft sprocket or drive sprocket.Hope that makes sense.Again not the polished outer cover, Kawasaki refers to this inner cover as a "Mission Cover", Hoping I can do this with engine still in frame, one person has responded yes so far,
Since it is leaking from Gear Selector shaft seal, Countershaft seal and behind the gasket,() PO left Bike sit outside... covered, ....but still out in weather since 1994!! and not run until I rescued it !)I am finding that all the seals and rubber parts ( and a heck of a lot of other parts too! are history! just going to remove the Mission Cover, put in the 2 new seals and of course the Mission Cover Gasket itself, then re-install sprocket and outer polished cover. If you would like to see what bike looked like when I first got it , send me a PM with your e-mail and I will send you pics that will sadden and just blow you away! Over $5 K spent so far on parts! And that does not include my labor or my cousins labor who is a master mechanic, machinist and KZ owner himself, There is as you may suspect a reason I have continued to work so hard on the bike and why I have sunk more work and $$ into it. Will share that story too if you are interested. Welll,,,, have rambled on enough for now. Thanks For Your Input!!
