If not already done, would double-check ignition coil wiring.

Whether using points, igniter pulse coils, or Dyna modules, each type has a left-hand (nine o'clock) component and a matching right-hand (three o'clock) component.

Wiring from the coils to the components is basically the same.
Left component goes to whichever coil is connected to the outside sparkplugs #1/4.
Right component goes to whichever coil is connected to the inside sparkplugs #2/3.

Good Fortune! :)

On some models, it's possible to install the ignition rotor 180 degrees off.

When correctly installed on a points system, the left contacts will open just as the 1/4 F mark aligns with the permanent case mark.

On a Dyna-S system, the magnet embedded in the rotor will pass the left module just as the 1/4 F mark aligns with the permanent case mark.

On Kaw's oem igniter system, the rotor projection will pass the left module just as the 1/4 F mark aligns with the permanent case mark.

Good Fortune! :)

I have checked and re-checked the wiring to make sure it is right and all looks to be in the right place and connected.

Are spark plugs damp with gasoline?
Fuel mixture may not be getting into combustion chamber (for whatever reason).

What happens if spray starter fluid into carb intakes while trying to start the engine?

Combustion requires only three elements:
Adequate compression;
Sufficient properly timed spark;
Correct air/fuel mixture.

Good Fortune! :)

As usual, this guy is no help at all! :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

:blush: Sorry Patton, dont mean to bust yer balls.
Keep up the great info.

As noted in previous diagrams, you could just have the plug wires backwards. Try it... switch 4-3 and 1-2 and kick it a few times. Worst it can do is afterfire.

Also, sometimes you may not be giving it enough idle input via the idle control knob.

Remember, cold cylinders need lots o' fuel to get going so always engage the choke. If its a variable type choke, try changing it to different positions.

Be sure and not touch throttle grip when starting cold engine with choke fully ON.

The enrichener circuit is designed to function when the throttle slides are closed fully down. That means left in idle position.

Do NOT "crack" the throttle.

Do NOT "pump" the throttle.

Just leave the throttle alone. :cheer:

Pop Quiz ---

Which resulted from using stater fluid?

Which resulted from the dreaded afterfire?

I never had a problem with starter fluid:D but yesterday, i took a torch to this seized up part from another bike to try and get it to break free. i sprayed silicon lubricant on it and it sizzled off. I restarted the torch and it cooked my eyebrows off after the whole desk blew up for no reason:D

what year are you working on, and is it still the stock as far as points or electronic.
Does the starter not work? or is the batter ytoo low to use the starter? you need a fully charged battery to get a good hot spark.
last thing, have you checked compression?
