gear selector play

gear selector play was created by asevans
was out riding around checking on my plug issue and all of a sudden i couldnt down shift. got home and noticed alot of play on my gear selector lever. well exactly 2 inches of play center to center at the farthest point out on the lever. took the cover off and well i dont know what to do now. what happened?

this is a KZ 900?When u took cover off was wire from clutch attached to the actuator arm or was it just dangling loose in the housing?

im sorry i said clutch lever i meant gear selector ill edit. yes the kz900

The selector sprin can be eiher worn/broken/poped out of place somehow.

Take all that linkage apart and clean and lubricate all of it, then reassemble. You'll find it makes a world of difference.

Also, the cover can be slightly off causing the shifter shaft to stick at either end of travel.
