73 Z1 900 FSM give between 38 and 52 in lbs for bolts on timing chain guide sprocket , how does the difference in this scale affect the valve clearance, or does it at all, in other words, if I have it on 50 and back down to 40 or 45 will that change the clearance between lobe and shim ???
this is why i'm asking, after putting head back on bike i checked the valve clearances, 6 of the 8 had NONE, this is the first check since purchasing a couple of months ago. I did not check before removing head ( I wish i had) have ticking in #4 exhaust valve that i didnt have before, (removed head to repair bad header studs) everything reassembled correctly, replace in exactly same locations(bolt, bearings , buckets etc ..) Any ideas ??/

Your cam tower sprocket has nothing to do with the clearances between your cam lobes and valve shims. You need to double check the torque values for the cam caps (carefully, as the head will strip if cam bolts are too tight)...then you need to re-shim. :)

Do not go over 100 inch-pounds (about 8 ft-lbs)on the caps and make sure you have a low range torque wrench which is accurate there.
