I purchased the kz yesterday. The guy that I bought her from said that he had her running last year a couple of times without a problem. Today when I went to start her up, third kick, she came to life. What an excellent sign i thought. I only kicked her over because the starter is dead/mis-wired). As i was about to pull out of the garage my buddy made me stop. Oil was pouring out at what appeared to be the junction of the shaft drive and the trans. I ran it for about 5 minutes before I had to shut her down so she wasn't leaking instantly. but can that seal go without notice? the leak was at the bottom of the junction which is in the center of the photo. For reference, the bottom center of the photo is right above the front left footpeg.

You mean these parts: ;)

Check the connecting components for cracks/wear, and make sure the clamp is nice and tight.
If its just the seal behind the plat, that can be easily repaired with a liquid rtv sealant.

Most excellent. Wanted to make sure i was right with seal before i started picking up parts. one other question, since im still waiting on my clymers manual, the seal between trans and shaft obviously seems to be one solid tube, are trans oil and shaft oil the same? why would there be two different holes for filling then?

The shaft-train oil is seperate from the trans/engine oil.

Pretty sure its 90W SAE Gear Oil for the Shaft-train, and a good 10W40 or better for your engine oil.

Use a wet-clutch approved motorcycle oil!
