Clutch not engaging no matter where its adjusted was created by Kitten Tooth
i just got my 81' KZ1000LTD running pretty good yesterday. i adjusted the clutch in accordance with the manual. I have the bike on the center stand right now and the front tire is flat so the back wheel doesn't touch the ground. I figured i would put it in gear once to see if the back wheel spinned. I shifted into 1st with the clutch pulled in and i looked back at the back wheel. I hadn't let the clutch out yet and the back wheel was spinning. So i shut the bike off. I have adjust the the metal adjuster on the mid section of the cable. No matter where i set it, the clutch doesn't seem to pull it out of gear like it should. I pull it in and try to turn the wheel in 1st gear and it barely spins. When i let the clutch out it won't spin at all. So, the clutch just barely works. I recently drained the oil to fix the starter clutch and the crank case was empty for a week or so. Do you guys thik that maybe the clutch friction plates are stuck together? My GS300L did the same thing when i drained the oil but it worked itself out of it.
WHATS WRONG WITH MY BIKE!!!??
Thanks guys,
KT

U said u adjusted the clutch by the manual.Did u just adjust the cable or did u adjust the clutch release via the small sideplate as well?

By the way, I like my clutch to "drag" just a bit,so when my bike is up on the paddock lift and in first with the clutch in, the rear wheel spins as well.when its on the ground, the bike "creeps" just a bit in 1st.I set it that way on purpose.bj

My dad adjusted the screw with the locknut on the worm gear for the clutch pushrod. It was under that cover with the two allen-key bolts on the pushrod cover. We adjusted that and the bolt adjuster on the cable. I think that the plates are stuck together from sitting with no oil. Im not certain though..

That's normal, oil drag alone will keep the rear tire spinning when it's off the ground like that.

I dont think there is anything wrong with your bike. I think that's normal. Dont do anything until a few others have posted a response.

kk, i get a new front tire on friday. The one thats on there is cracked really bad. When i get my tire tomorrow, i should have my lights wired, foot pegs brake stays all back on after cleaning, and my new 6 pin connectors on in the head light bucket. I'll just leave it for now. From what you guys say, this thing doesn't sound too catastrophic:) Thanks for all the replies,
KT

While holding the clutch in have someone put their foot against the rear tire. See if they will stop the rotation and how much pressure it will take to do so and hold it from turning. The heavier the oil in the trans, the more it will spin and the more pressure it will take.
