i broke a clutch cable the other day. i was in 2nd gear when it went, slamed into gear when it broke. replaced the calbe now it cant shift higher than second gear while rolling. if i put it up on the center stand i can shift all the way up and back down but the shifter feels stiff. any ideas?

It is unlikely that the tranny has been damaged. KZ trannies are renowned for their robustness. Double, triple, quadruple check that the new cable was adjusted exactly as the factory shop manual requires. Skipping steps or even doing them out of order can lead to a great deal of frustration. This is especially true of the KZs that have an adjuster in the middle of the cable.
It is considered respectful around here to put your basic bike info in your signature line. If you have multiple bikes, clearly state which one is giving you grief, since diagnosis and treatment can vary quite a bit from one model to the next.

thanks for all the help folks. it turned out to be a linkage problem. the cover plate on the shifter was out of line and binding my shifter.
