I have developed a slow annoying leak out of 2 cam endcaps on my bike. I just don't trust the rubber ones. APE has some nice endcaps for the older KZ bikes, but none for the J, does anybody know if there are any good quality aluminum caps for J bikes?

I followed all the instructions I was given. I also retorques the endcaps when I retorqued the head bolts (nuts). It's only 2 of them, and one is actually leaking from the bolt that goes down through the rubber endcap, so I think a copper washer would fix that one, but the other one is leaking around the rubber.

When you put it together again, or do the bolts now to stop 1 leak, I put Teflon tape on the thresds of the bolts. Since the holes can be like a drain as they are located at the low point of the 1/2 circle. I can't think of why they did this, there are thousands of engine designs with these 1/2 circles, and no bolt goes through them. The type of sealer you use on them is the trick, it must stand up to oil, but remain semi pliable as those rubber ones will shrink up slightly with heat over time.

well, I tightened the bolts that go through the endcaps down a bit more and through my weekend of riding they seemed to hold the oil in. I hope that lasts because washing oil off after every ride sucks!

Anyways, DShelly is a machinist in the process of making some J end caps, and Z1E is in the process of developing some of their own, so by the time I am ready for a valve adjustment I will have a source for end caps, sweet!
