Small Problem: wont start.

G'day,

I finally got my bike yesterday, to find it wont start. Initially it gave a few revolutions, sounded like all was well, then died. After a few attempts at this, the battery went flat. So i switched to kick starting. This rendered the same result, starting for a couple of turns.. then nothing. There is plenty of fuel in it, the choke it right, not using any throttle...

I am very new to all of this and the problem may be a very small one.

Help!

open the throttle about 1/4 of an inch and see if it fires up and revs smoothly. BTW what kind of bike do you have?

The throttle seems to kill it even faster. The one time it started for more than a few second, I tried to put it into gear, it lurched forward and died.

It is what i think is a 78 Kz560 B1.

How are you at pulling the carbs and cleaning throughly, you can be doing this while the battery is charging. Also clean the tank, petcock, and make sure of a in line fuel filter before adding fresh gas. You probably need to check your points, they may be worn, causing weak spark, retarded ignition, low coil out put.

Well i got it from a dealer yesterday and it rode well then, so i am hoping it isnt any of those issues. I dont have the tools to do that sadly.
the fuel tap was on Res... i have tried On as well...

Dealer sold it AS IS? Or will they get it running for you?
Charging up the battery would help. choke on full and 0 throttle. Do you have the tools to pull the plugs and make sure they are not fouled?

The dealer did a full service and have had it running up until the delivered it yesterday. I dont currently have the tools.. but could borrow some in the next couple o' days.

Do you have some jumper cables? Leave the car off, and hook up to your bike. So you use the car battery, but not the cars charging system. Try starting then as it will get plenty of voltage/ current to spin the starter and provide max spark. Just don't over heat the starter motor.

I think the fuel lines was the issue. wasnt flowing.

Update! It started, but only long enough for me to take it around the car park. it was chugging along, when i came to stop, it died again. I have not been able to start it since. The battery only just has enough charge to light the dash lights.

you need to get the battery fully charged, also since you bought it from a dealer a call to him to help you understand the bike would not be out of the question
