my local steeler ship wanted $12.35 plus taz for an oil filter and 3 days to get it in.. my buddy owns a jet ski shop and got me one for just $6 bucks

Oh, I am sorry. I use WIX and Walmart (Tech ??) on the cars.
Here is a list I have from another post in the archives for your bike, but the Walmart isn't there.

Kawaski filter # 16099-003 crosses to;
fits KZ400 1974-79, KZ440 1980-83, KZ550 1980-83, KZ650,CSR<D 1977-83, KZ700 1984, KZ750 R,GPz,LTD,Spectre 1980-84, KZ1000 1981-83, KZ1000 Police 1981 to present, KZ1100 1981-84 (includes GPZ 1100).

There may be others, check the Kawi part # at buykawasaki.com to be sure.

Big A #96941
Champ #P7011
Fram #CH6012
Purolator #ML16812
Wix 24941

FYI: NAPA "Gold" filters are made by Wix (and I believe the "Big A" brand is also)
I'm using Napa Gold p/n 4941 for my latest oil change on the KZ550 LTD, and was pleased to see that it included a set of new O rings.

More FYI: The SAME filter (KAW # -003) is STILL in use today, in the ZRX1200, ZZR1200, as well as the now defunct ZX-11.
