Strange noise

Hi I'm a newbie to the kzrider, and would like to start out with a question. I have a 77 kz650b runs and rides great but it makes the strangest sound when you start it in the morning. It almost sounds like a sick goose honking briefly when the engine first fires, the bike starts great in all weather but this sound is starting to concern me. Any ideas anyone?

your starter clutch is on the way out.
mine did the same before it crapped out.
not too hard to do and it can be done in bike but soooooo much easier with the motor out.
nothing you did. it's not uncommon on the 650's.

Oh yea....those are definitely not fun to do

my 82 750 does that too. What do you have to change ?

It could also be as simple as a dry starter bushing. The bushing on the left end of the starter gets dry and makes a noise like that. It is MUCH easier to check that first. Just take the starter off and remove the end cap. Check the bushing in the cap it will be dry. It may also be worn out of round. There used to be rebuild kits for them on EBAY. You can put a dab of never seize in the bushing to stop the noise and order the kit you need it.
