Hello,

green question here, I just changed the oil in my 77 kz650 and the guide says the oil should come half way up the oil level window.

WHen the bike is on its center stand the oil level is half but when the bike is on its side stand the oil level drops below the designated area.

I'm afraid i dont have enough oil in but im also afraid if i add any more then i will have too much...

?:S

Thanks

The oil level is read when the bike is on the center stand. When on the side stand all the oil moves to the other side of the motor.

on pretty much every bike the bike needs to sit level. So side won't give you a good reading.

Put the bike on the centerstand(if you have one) for an accurate measurement of the oil level. If no centerstand, have a friend hold the bike up so you can fill the oil to the correct level.

I fill my 1982 GPz1100 B2 on the centerstand with the oil at the upper line shown next to the window.

Thank you.

Side note, I just bought this bike and the oil level window was completly full and BLACK

Guess I should look into changing all the other fluids now...

Here's an easy way to check oil level when there's no centerstand or assistant to hold the bike balanced upright.

While sitting astride the bike, use an inexpensive pocket style telescoping mirror to see the oil level through the sight glass. Such mirrors are readily available from almost anywhere automotive tools are sold.

No precariously trying to hold the bike steady and level while squatted down and bent over or on your knees beside the bike.

Works even better with a flashlight in hand or worklight on floor to illuminate the sight glass area.

Good Fortune! :)

Do you have the owner's manual for the bike? It has oil change & other info.
Just in case... it may be in a pull-down document holder on the underside of the seat.
