Another sealant along the lines of the 3M mentioned by OMR-Threebond 1211
79 KZ 1075 MKll

Just be sure it doesn't squeeze out toward the inside where it could fall off and clog an oil passage or otherwise interfere with engine internals.

That 82 1000 CSR that I had looked just like this when I got it. Even had orange RTV in place of the head gasket. That was optomistic.

Thanks for all the input. Obviously everyone has their preferences & there really isn't one right answer....although there surely is wrong ones (see picture above) :laugh:

That stuff is excellent on engine cover gaskets. A thin coat will allow you to pull the cover later on and not rip the gasket. :)

OK guys,
It looks like I opened a can of worms about the RTV comment.
I will stand by it.
Z's use a LOW pressure oiling system.
If any of that junk gets inside the engine after its dry it can clog stuff up.
(dry and squeezed into the engine)
I have seen several engines turned into junk because the owner did the quick fix with that stuff and it got into the engine.

Treat a Z engine more like a sewing machine then a truck.
You wouldn't want some orange gunk floating around in that would you ?

And NO I don't sew.
