Horrible exhaust leak on cylinder 3? was created by Kitten Tooth
Well, if you read my thread about the starter, i found out that the cable coming off of the starter was loose and that bolt needed tightened. The starter spins fine now. I just have to install it. When i pushed the bike down the street in second gear to make sure my motor wasn't locked after the starter quit on me, i heard a horrific hissing noise coming from the inside header on the right side. I have new exhaust gaskets so i'm going to do that job tomorrow. Should i use anti-seize on the bolts before i bolt the headers back on? Also, would you guys recommend torquing the header bolts? I always did the ones on my GS300 Suzuki By feel and they never leaked... Also, my muffler is really nasty on the right side. If i hacked my mufflers off, would i need to re-jet?

Thanks guys,
KT

I never do.

I do mine by hand, don't torque.

Yes, that will throw the jetting miles off. Also, save some money for all the tickets you will be getting.

Always use anti-sieze, especially when dealing with exhaust componets, will save much trouble later down the road.

Hand tightened will work fine, don't overtighten.

Never a good idea to lose the mufflers

I have to use double gasket rings on one side of my 750 twin, but not the other. Not sure why, but it won't seal that side with only one.

The split collars come in slightly different lengths, and sometimes the collars for exhaust system A might be a little too short when used with exhaust system B.

For example, the oem split collars for a certain model may be sightly different length than the split collars furnished with a new accessory exhaust system.

Easy to get these mixed around in the parts drawer, and not notice small differences in length.

Good Fortune! :)
