Sometimes gas leaks down into the cylinders while it's sitting and the crankcase gets too full.

When you did your last oil change did the oil reek of gasoline?

Do you find your oil level sight glass is going up?

If you suspect gas going into the cylinders check your overflow tube. If it goes up like from the factory change the route to go down, back and over the swingarm. That might at least keep it from going into the cylinders. Then do a fuel service check to see what your float bowls are doing.

To clarify ---

Overflow tubes attach to nipples from bottom of float bowls and are routed downward to exit underneath bike.
Overflow tubes aren't routed upward (because fuel doesn't flow "up.").

The float bowl vent tubes may be oem routed upward to exit underneath the seat.
Some folks prefer to route these vent tubes to exit underneath the bike (as do the overflow tubes).

Good Fortune! :)
